Class participation is worth 10% of students’ total class grade in English 1C. That is a significant amount, so please use my suggestions below to earn the best score possible.
Simply put, I’m hoping for three areas of involvement:
- Listen to others.
- Ask clarifying questions.
- Be respectful and attentive when your peers are contributing
- Synthesize information, ideas and opinions that are voiced not only by the professor but by the writers we’ve read and by your classmates.
- Take notes when relevant.

- Respond with relevant information or opinions to questions asked.
- Facilitate total group involvement.
- Introduce relevant ideas and opinions to enrich the discussion.
- Paraphrase and summarize what we’ve read or learned as needed.
